Barbara Beck left a 14-year career in computer sales in 1992 and began volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, California. Six months later, she was offered a position managing the organization. Barbara moved to Florida in 1998, where she was recruited by HFH of Lee County for five years; then moved to the Pinellas County (Clearwater/St. Petersburg) affiliate in 2003 as President/CEO for 10 years. Under her leadership, home construction rose from 2 homes to 30 homes annually, and increased employment from 3 full-time staff to 30. Barbara was named President/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Florida in July of 2013 after chairing the board and securing a $20 million award from the federal Mortgage Settlement Funds.Barbara attended Roosevelt University, where she majored in Business and received a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of California Irvine. She was awarded the 2006 Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Nonprofit Business Woman of the Year, the 2012 Female Nonprofit CEO of the Year from the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, and was named one of “Tampa Bay’s 10 Leading Ladies” in BLU Magazine, January of 2013.
