The Local Government’s Role in Ending Homelessness

Local governments receive funding from the State or Local Housing Trust Fund and HUD, which can be used to develop housing or offer rental assistance that targets special populations. Approaching your government with the knowledge of specific funding sources, and their potential use, can be a win-win for all involved. Providers will learn how to be an advocate for those served while being a good steward of public funds. Local government staff will learn how to better utilize dollars set aside for homelessness and affordable housing. This session provides an overview of specific funding allocations that can be used as rental assistance or development dollar, along with how some Florida communities are utilizing their funding.
