Regulatory Reform Update from 2019 Legislative Session

The theme for this workshop is regulatory reform done right, covering the concept of land value capture and the drivers for home prices and rents. Inclusionary housing, impact fees, and expedited permitting are three of the land use tools for affordable housing that were hot topics in the 2019 legislative session. This workshop addresses the statutory changes that will affect local government land use relative to affordable housing. In addition to understanding the new laws, you can expect to come away with a better understanding of what makes housing unaffordable and the framework local government planners and policymakers can use to increase the supply of affordable housing, including a discussion on political courage in the face of NIMBYism.
