Chris Estes is the President and CEO of National Housing Conference. He began his tenure at NHC in July 2012, coming from North Carolina, where he led the North Carolina Housing Coalition for nine years. Chris leads the organization’s strategic direction for its policy, communications and research work and serves as a national thought leader on affordable housing and community development issues. Estes has experience in community organizing, affordable housing development and credit syndication as well as programs that serve the residents in affordable housing communities. He has written about the linkage between affordable housing and transportation, and housing and public health, and worked on issues of foreclosure prevention and housing for those with disabilities. Estes is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), where he majored in economics and industrial relations. He also has two masters’ degrees from UNC-CH in social work and city and regional planning. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Baltimore Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and the National Low Income Housing Coalition, as well as the Fannie Mae Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.
