Preservation of affordable housing is about recapitalizing and rehabilitating older affordable properties to prevent disrepair from creating substandard conditions. It is also about ensuring that affordable properties are not flipped to market rate or luxury housing at the end of the land use restriction agreement term. POAH is a national nonprofit dedicated to affordable housing preservation; POAH developments in Florida will be featured. Aaron Gornstein, the CEO for POAH will explain the cost benefits and the public policy value of preservation. Anne Ray, from the Shimberg Center, Florida’s premier affordable housing data clearinghouse, will share the findings from national and Florida specific research about the efficacy of preservation and the dangers of creating affordable housing without requiring long term affordability.
