Ending the shortage of affordable homes for low income renters requires better policy solutions from elected leaders in both Tallahassee and Washington. Sadly, candidates rarely talk about housing, even when addressing the need to address growing economic inequality. Housing organizations are in a unique position to raise the profile of these issues with decision makers by registering low income renters to vote, engaging candidates, educating new voters, and mobilizing people to make it to the polls. Election-related work is totally acceptable for a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization as long as it remains non-partisan. Attendees of this session will learn about best practices to elevate the importance as an issue in elections. The session will also explore effective methods to increase registration and turnout amongst low income renters and people who are experiencing homelessness.
